Bernice B. (Brant) Butcher

York—Bernice B. (Brant) Butcher, 92, died Friday, February 03, 2012 at her residence in Springettsbury Township. She was the wife of the late Laverne J. Butcher to whom she was married for 68 years. She was born November 8, 1919 in Berlin, Somerset Co, the daughter of the late John S. and Lola M. (Walker) Brant. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2 PM, Tuesday, February 7, 2012 at Church of the Open Door, 8 Carlisle Court, York. Her pastor, the Rev. Scott W. Shuffield will officiate. A visitation will be held from 1-2 PM, Tuesday, at the church. Burial will be private at Codorus Church of the Brethren Cemetery. Heffner Funeral Chapel and Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Rd, York, is in charge of arrangements. She was a loving and caring wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She attended Elizabethtown College. She was a former member of the MD Federation of Art having exhibited her oils and pastels in juried exhibitions throughout the region. She enjoyed volunteer working, especially Meals on Wheels. Mrs. Butcher is survived by two sons: J. Donald Butcher and wife, Marla of York, and Michael A. Butcher of Dover; daughter Judith B. Cochran and husband James of Panama City Beach, FL; four grandchildren: Debbie Bieber and husband Tim, Scott Butcher and wife Debbie, Tom Butcher, Dan Butcher and wife, Suzette; and four great grandchildren: Eric and Alison Bieber, Zoe Butcher, Jonathan Butcher; one sister: Shirley Ferree; two brothers: John Brant, Jr. and wife, Ruth, and Wayne Brant and wife, Leah; plus numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by sister Esther Hoover.
