DALLASTOWN-Bernard "Bernie" L. Werking, 80, Senior Chief Petty Officer U.S. Navy (Ret.), passed away Friday, November 12, 2010 at Manor Care South, York. He was the loving husband of Ruth Ann (Flinchbaugh) Werking. Together they shared 27 years of marriage. A celebration of life service will be 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, November 16, 2010 at Life Tributes by Olewiler and Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc. 35 Gotham Place, Red Lion, with the Rev. James E. VanZandt officiating. Visitation will be held from 9-10:00 a.m., Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Mt. Rose Cemetery with full military rites provided for by the York County Veteran's Honor Guard. Mr. Werking was born May 12, 1930 in York, a son of the late Lester and Mary (Hoffman) Werking. Bernie served 21 years in the U.S. Navy and was later employed by Graham Engineering Co., the former Dico Inc. , the former Bessemer Products; Sico Oil Co., and Coldwell Banker Real Estate Co. He was a former member of Windsor Fish and Game, Hopewell Fish and Game, Dallastown American Legion, and Izaak Walton League. He loved boating, camping, shooting, and was an avid fisherman. In addition to his wife, he is survived by four daughters, Cheryl Werking of Bellefonte, PA, Mary Ann Julian of York, Nancy Nix and husband, Kenneth, of Philadelphia, TN, and Sheri Fix and husband, Gerald of York; a son, Bryon Werking of Brooksville, FL; 10 grandchildren; and 7 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a sister Doris Zellers. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Bethany United Methodist Church, 121 W. Broadway, Red Lion, PA 17356 or to the American Diabetes Association, 3544 N. Progress Ave, Suite 101, Harrisburg, PA 17403.
