Bernadette R. Hughes

POTTSVILLE- Bernadette R. Hughes, 89, resident of Seton Manor, Orwigsburg, passed away Saturday evening at Seton Manor. Born in Mount Laffee, PA on November 2, 1923 she was a daughter of the late Edward and Florence Brennan Motley. Bernadette was a 1941 graduate of Pottsville Catholic High School. She worked at the former Warne Clinic, which became the Pottsville Hospital and Warne Clinic as a switchboard operator for over 25 years. She was a receptionist for Dr. Fritz until her retirement. After Dr. Fritz passed away, Bernadette served as a receptionist for Dr. Anthony Pacenta for several more years. Bernadette was a member of Saint Patrick’s Church, Pottsville. In addition to Bernadette’s parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Francis Hughes, who passed away in 1973; her brother, John Motley and her two sisters, Helen Raess and Margaret Smith. Bernadette is survived by her two sons, Francis Hughes, Jr., husband of Susan, of Williamsburg, VA -and Robert Hughes, husband of Dawn, of West Lawn, PA; her five grandchildren, Brian, Kevin, Christopher and Patrick Hughes and Bridget Fitzpatrick Grundsky; her 10 great grandchildren; her two sisters, Joan Olstein, wife of Elliot, of Kinellon, NJ and Cathy Schleupner, wife of Paul, of Terra Alta, WV; several nieces and nephews . Mass of Christian burial will be held on Thursday morning at 10:00 A.M. in Saint Patrick’s Church, 4th & Mahantongo Sts., Pottsville. Family and friends may call on Wednesday evening from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. at Schlitzer-Allen-Pugh Funeral Home, Inc., Garfield Square, 6th & West Market Sts., Pottsville. There will also be a visitation on Thursday morning from 8:30 A.M. until 9:30 A.M. at the funeral home, where the procession will gather prior to the Mass at Saint Patrick’s Church. Private Entombment will be held in Our Lady of Calvary Cemetery Chapel, Hillside, Pottsville. Memorial contributions may be sent to Saint Patrick’s Church, 319 Mahantongo Street, Pottsville, PA 17901.
