Barbara W. Pomroy

YORK-Barbara (Wrisley) Pomroy 87, of Windsor Township, died Sunday, December 17, 2017 at Senior Commons at Powder Mill in York. She was the wife of J DeVere “Lee” Pomroy. The couple celebrated their 67th wedding anniversary on June 3, 2017. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, December 22, 2017 at Yorkshire United Methodist Church, 125 Edgewood Rd. in York with a visitation to follow. Her pastor, The Reverend Dennis A. Hummel will be officiating at the service. Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Rd. in York is assisting the family with arrangements. Mrs. Pomroy was born in Athens, PA on November 4, 1930, the daughter of the late Charles H. and Helen I. (Fox) Wrisley. She taught at various schools in Pennsylvania and Baltimore County. She retired in 1991 from Baltimore County School District. Mrs. Pomroy was a member of Yorkshire United Methodist Church in York. She was a 1952 graduate of Albright College in Reading. She felt her gift was encouraging others, always looking for the best in people. She “spread the love around” and always had a smile for everyone she encountered. The world is a little less kind without her in it. Mrs. Pomroy leaves a son, Joseph L. Pomroy and his wife Allison of Timonium, MD; two daughters, Diane P. Arey and her husband Russell of Ephrata and Carole A. Pomroy of Hunt Valley, MD; four grandchildren, Lisa, Brian, Kristi, and Jason; and four great grandchildren, Kylie, Madison, Lincoln, and Leala. She was preceded in death by a sister, Sylvia Kropp and a brother, Donald Wrisley. Memorial contributions may be made to Yorkshire United Methodist Church, 125 Edgewood Rd., York, PA 17402.
