Barbara R. Rees

Barbara R. Rees, 65, of Pottsville, died Aug. 19 at Schuylkill Medical Center–South Jackson Street, Pottsville. Born in Pottsville, Oct. 27, 1947, she was the daughter of the late Francis and Anna May Super Rees. She received a Master's Degree of Education from Bloomsburg University. Until retiring in 2007, she was employed by the Schuylkill Intermediate Unit 29 as a Special Ed teacher. She enjoyed playing softball in the girls league, volunteered annually for the Special Olympics, and enjoyed camping with her friends. Barbara loved taking vacations with her sisters, nieces, and extended family. In addition to her parents, Barbara was preceded in death by her brother, James W. Rees. Barbara is survived by five sisters, Frances, and her husband Richard Maurer, Severna Park, Md., Mary Rees, and her partner Terry Nagy, Alexandria, Va., Margaret, and her husband Gerald Brown, Haddonfield, N.J., Jean Rees, Alexandria, Va., and Joan, and her husband, Steven Katz, Lock Haven; five nieces, Jennifer, Amy, Katie, Julie, and Emily; and an aunt, Sylvia Rees. A grave site service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Saint John the Baptist Cemetery, Pottsville. Monsignor William F. Glosser will officiate. In lieu of flower, memorial contributions can be made to: Special Olympics Pennsylvania, 2570 Blvd of the Generals, STE 124 Norristown, PA 19403; and Hillside SPCA, 51 SPCA Road, Pottsville, PA 17901.
