Dallastown- Barbara Lynn Strayer, 62, died Saturday, June 20, 2009 at York Hospital. A celebration of life service will be held 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, June 24, 2009 at Life Tributes by Olewiler and Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 35 Gotham Place, Red Lion with her pastor, the Rev. Roger Mentzer officiating. A viewing will be held from 9-11:00 a.m. Wednesday, at the funeral home. Burial will be in Susquehanna Memorial Gardens. Barbara was born February 22, 1947 in Dallastown, a daughter of the late Clayton P. and Mabel I. (Ehrhart) Strayer. She was a 1965 graduate of Dallastown High School, and continued her education part-time at York Hospital School of Nursing. She then went on to work as a medical assistant for Dr. Joachim Friedrich for over 30 years until her retirement. Barbara was a life time member of Bethlehem United Methodist Church-Dallastown. She enjoyed watching Penn State football, reading up on current events, but most of all, she loved going shopping with her family. Barbara had a large heart for all animals, especially cats. Barbara is survived by a daughter, Alicia Danielle Schmiedel and husband, Eric of York; three brothers, Royce L. Strayer and wife, Shirley of York, Perry J. Strayer of Altoona, Pa, and John D. Strayer and wife, Cathy of Dallastown; three sisters, MaryAnn Olphin of Dallastown, Beverly I. Moritz and husband, Michael of Dallastown, and Cheryl E. Spilman of York; and numerous nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to SPCA-York, 3159 Susquehanna Trail N., York, PA, 17402.
