Barbara Jean Showalter

YORK – Barbara Jean (Armacost) Showalter, 77, passed away Sunday, February 11, 2024 at SpiriTrust Lutheran Village at Sprenkle Drive.

A Celebration of Barb’s life will be held from 2-5:00 PM Sunday, February 25, 2024 in the Verandah Room at York Expo Center, 334 Carlisle Avenue, York. Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Road, York is in charge of arrangements.

Born May 14, 1946 in Hanover, a daughter of the late Preston S. and Frances (Masimore) Armacost of Hampstead, MD; she was a 1964 graduate of North Carroll High School in MD. Barb retired from Penguin/Random House in Westminster, MD after 38 years of service. She was a life member of Parkville Fire Company (Hanover Area Fire-Rescue). Barb enjoyed outdoor activities like fishing and camping, and traveling with friends and family.

Ms. Showalter is survived by a daughter, Kimberly A. Bloom and fiancé Douglas Eash and his sons, Codie (Mary) of Dover and Jacob at home. Also her fur babies PJ and Lucy, as well as, grandfurs, Max and Maggie.

Known as Grumpy Cat and Nutsy, she will be missed by her family and friends who knew her best for her feistiness and honesty.
