Lieutenant Col. Barbara J. (Snethen) Hobaugh, 76, passed away on Saturday, November 5, 2016 at Normandie Ridge in York. She previously resided at 130 S. Newberry Street in York. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, November 11, 2016 at Asbury United Methodist Church, 340 E. Market Street in York, with a viewing from noon-1p.m. The Reverend Don Slaybaugh will be officiating at the service. Burial will be in Arlington Cemetery in Drexel Hill, PA on Saturday at 11 a.m. Ms. Hobaugh was born in Philadelphia on December 10, 1939, the daughter of Elmer J. and Mildred (McKelvey) Snethen. She worked as an Operating Room Supervisor for 22 years at Delaware County Memorial Hospital, and then worked at Memorial Hospital in York and then most recently at York County Prison as a Registered Nurse. Ms. Hobaugh was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church in York. She was a graduate of Bryn Mawr Nursing School and received her Master’s Degree in nursing from West Chester University. She was involved with the American Cancer Society. She was active for many years in the Historic Newton Square Neighborhood Association of York and was also a member of AAUW, American Association of University Woman for years. She was a 20 year retired Lt. Col in the US Army Reserves. Ms. Hobaugh leaves a daughter, Sharon L. Hobaugh of Drexel Hill; two brothers, Elmer E. Snethen, Jr. of North Wildwood, NJ and Joseph P. Snethen of Naples FL; a sister, Lynn S, Coletta of Collegeville; and nieces and nephews. Memorial contributions may be made to American Heart Association, York County Division, 610 Community Way, Lancaster, PA 17603.
