Barbara A. Simmons

Barbara A. (Brosend) Simmons, 83, passed away on Tuesday, August 30, 2016 at SpiriTrust Lutheran, The Village at Sprenkle Drive. She was the wife of the late Dwight W. Simmons. A Celebration of Life Tribute Service will be held at 10:00 AM Saturday, September 3, 2016 at Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Road, York with Pastor David Kominsky officiating. A visitation will be held from 9-10:00 AM Saturday at the Funeral Chapel. Burial will be in Prospect Hill Cemetery. Born on April 23, 1933 in York, a daughter of the late Carl F. and Saddie J. (Siders) Brosend, she was a graduate of William Penn Senior High. Mrs. Simmons was a member of Pleasureville United Methodist Church and previously at Grace Lutheran Church. She enjoyed gospel music, playing games and reading. Mrs. Simmons is survived by two sons, David A. and wife Wendy Simmons of Mt. Wolf and Brian L. and wife Debra Simmons of Mechanicsburg; one daughter Melissa A. Bates of York; six grandchildren; two great grandchildren; a brother, Carl Brosend of York; and three sisters, Mary Goodling of Dover, Lois Lightner and Ruth Vaughn both of York. She was preceded in death by a sister, Esther Renner. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Salvation Army, 50 E.
