YORK – B. Joan “Pete” (Starz) Meisenhelder, 90, passed away Monday, September 14, 2015 at her home. She was the wife of the late Ralph G. “Meise” Meisenhelder who passed away on March 16, 2005. They had celebrated 56 years of marriage. A celebration of life tribute service will be held at 11:00 AM Thursday, September 17, 2015 at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, 947 N. George Street, York with her Pastor, The Rev. Beth A. Schlegel officiating. Burial will be in Prospect Hill Cemetery. Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Road, York is in charge of arrangements. Born July 26, 1925 in York a daughter of the late Marian (Andrews) and Joseph A. Starz, Sr., she was a 1943 graduate of North York High School. Mrs. Meisenhelder worked as the bookkeeper for Starz Bros. & Fritz and Eater-Starz Used Cars. She was an avid card player who began playing in high school. Pete’s card playing group began as high school friends who participated in the “Knitting for Britain” program which took the ladies knitting work and made them into blankets and scarves that were sent to British soldiers during the early years of WWII. This same group of ladies continued to get together and play cards for more than 70 years. Pete also loved to play golf. She was a member of the Out Door Country Club for 52 years where she played on the Ladies Golf Team and served as treasurer for the ODCC Ladies Golf Assoc. Joan was a life member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church. Mrs. Meisenhelder is survived by two sons, Dr. Dan A. Meisenhelder and wife Ginger of Melfa, VA and John S. Meisenhelder of Tolland, Conn.; four grandchildren, Brian and wife Becki Meisenhelder of Bel Air, MD, Eric and wife Stephanie Meisenhelder of York, and Scott and Beth Meisenhelder both of Denver, CO; two great grandsons, Cody and Alex Meisenhelder; a brother, Joseph A. Starz, Jr. and wife Jacqueline of Glen Rock; and nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Peter’s Lutheran Church Renewal Fund, 947 N. George St., York, PA 17404.
