YORK – Austin G. “Peck” Corwell, 96, quietly passed away Wednesday, September 17, 2014 at The Lutheran Home at Sprenkle Drive. He was the husband of the late Geneva L. (Graybill) Corwell to whom he was married for 74 years on December 17, 2012. A celebration of life tribute service will be held at 2:00 PM Sunday, September 21, 2014 at Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Road, York with Rev. Judith A. McKee officiating. A viewing will be held from 12:30- 2:00 PM Sunday at the Funeral Chapel. Burial will be in Prospect Hill Cemetery with full military rites provided by York County Veterans Honor Guard. Born February 15, 1918 in York a son of the late Samuel C. and Edith V. (Grove) Corwell, he was a 1936 graduate of North York High School. Mr. Corwell retired from American Chain and Cable Co. in 1982 after 43 years of service. He was a lifetime member at Grace Lutheran Church, the 13th Ward Democratic Club, and enjoyed hunting and golfing with his friends. Peck played baseball in the Central League for 10 years, following which had he was inducted into the Central League Old Timers Hall of Fame. Mr. Corwell cherished spending time with his family and being around and attending his grandchildren and great grandchildren’s events. He was a US Army veteran of WWII. Mr. Corwell is survived by a son, Austin Sam Corwell and wife M. Carol Corwell of York; three daughters, Nedra L. and husband Dale Boyer of York, Deborah E. and husband David Smyser of Spring Grove, and Marsha A. and husband Kenneth Humphreys of Abington, PA; 10 grandchildren, Jennifer Hartman, Greg and John Corwell, Lori Joseph, Beth Shenberger, David and Stephen Smyser, Melissa Snyder, Stephanie Donahue, and Marc Humphreys; 22 great grandchildren; and two sisters, Evelyn Noll of Danville and Doris Corwell of York. He was preceded in death by a brother and six sisters. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Lutheran Social Services Foundation, 1050 Pennsylvania Ave., York, PA 17404 or Make-A-Wish Foundation, 2951 Whiteford Rd., York, PA 17402.
