Athanasia "Soula" Toggas

Athanasia “Soula” (Smyrnis) Toggas, 83, formerly of York, passed away Sunday, December 18, 2016 at the home of her daughter, Olga Toggas in Surfside Beach, SC. She was the wife of the late George T. Toggas. A celebration of life tribute service will be held at 10:00 AM Friday, December 23, 2016 at the Greek Orthodox Church of the Annunciation, 2500 Pine Grove Road, York with her Priest, Father Andrew Tsikitas officiating. A viewing will be held from 9-10:00 AM Friday at the Church. Burial will be in Mt. Rose Cemetery. Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Road, York is in charge of arrangements. Born September 23, 1933 in Isaris, Greece; a daughter of the late Theodore and Maria (Zombolas) Smyrnis, she was a seamstress for more than 25 years in Greece and at The Fabric Shop in downtown York. Mrs. Toggas was a member of Greek Orthodox Church of the Annunciation and St. John the Baptist Greek Orthodox Church in Myrtle Beach, SC where she particularly enjoyed assisting with their food festivals. Mrs. Toggas is survived by two daughters, Olga G. Toggas and husband, Eric Wright of Surfside Beach, and Maria G. Toggas and husband Derek Smiley of Bridgewater, VA; three grandchildren, Evan and Athan Wright and Penelope Smiley; two sisters, Elefteria Leriadis and Constantina Kontaxi both of Athens, Greece; a sister in law, Mary Jane Toggas of Gettysburg; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by four brothers, Nick, John, Soterios, and Kostas Smyrnis.
