TROY- Arthur S. Harkness, 83, of Troy, PA went to be with his Lord on Wednesday, June 6, 2007 at the Troy Community Hospital. Family and friends are welcome to call at the First United Methodist Church of Troy; 205 Reddington Ave., Troy, PA from 1:00-2:00 PM on Sunday, July 8, 2007. A memorial service will follow the visitation at 2:00 P.M. at the church with Art's minister, Rev. Richard Noggle officiating. The Gerald W. Vickery, Jr. Funeral Home Inc., 110 West Main Street, Troy, PA has been entrusted with the arrangements. Art was born on April 1, 1924 In Canton Township, Bradford County, PA. He was the son of the late W. Stanley and Mabel L. (Swingle) Harkness. Art was a graduate of Troy High School, work for the Edgewood Dairy for over thirty years, then worked and retired from McClure Motors where he was the Service Manager. Art was a member of the 1st United Methodist Church of Troy. He was also a Certified Lay Speaker, preaching in the area's churches. He was a church Trustee, Head Usher, belonged to the Pastor-Parish Committee and the United Methodist Men, and was a Prayer Warrior for the 1st Methodist Church. Art was a life long member and former secretary of the Troy Fire Department, was a member of its fire police, was the Secretary/Treasurer of the Troy Ambulance Association, and was an Auxiliary Police Officer. Art was an inspiration to the community of Troy, PA and will be sadly missed by all. Art is survived by his sister-in-law Betty A. Harkness of Elmira, NY, along with several nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, and great great nieces and nephews. Art is preceded in death by his parents, his sister Edna H. Murray, his brothers: Gerald R. "Frosty" Harkness and Merlin Harkness, his sister-in-law Betty L. Harkness, and his brother-in-law Lloyd A. Murray. Contributions may be made in Art's memory to the First United Methodist Church of Troy; 205 Reddington Ave., Troy, PA 16947.
