RED LION - Arlene M. (Steffee) Smith, 86, passed away Thursday, August 20, 2015 at Manor Care Health Services- South in York. She was the wife of the late Sterling E. Smith to whom she was married 60 years prior to his passing in 2006. A Celebration of Life tribute service will be held at 10 AM on Wednesday, August 26, 2015 at Grace Lutheran Church, 220 N. Charles Street, Red Lion, with her Pastor, The Reverend Tina M. Melusky officiating. A visitation will be held from 9-10 AM prior to the service. Burial will be in Windsor Church of God Cemetery. Olewiler & Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 35 Gotham Place, Red Lion, is in charge of arrangements. Born October 20, 1928 in York, Arlene was the daughter of the late Roy N. and Marie I. (Kleiser) Steffee. Arlene was Mrs. Mayor of Red Lion for 20 years. She was a member of the Red Lion Historical Society and also a member of the Green Thumb Garden Club. She was a Girl Scout Leader and a Den Mother. Arlene worked as a seamstress for 35 years and continued to enjoy sewing for the community even after her retirement. Mrs. Smith was a lifelong member of Grace Lutheran Church and served in many capacities there. Mrs. Smith is survived by a son, Thomas E. Smith of Red Lion; a daughter, Gloria Hake of Dallastown, and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband and parents, Arlene was preceded in death by four brothers; Ralph, Richard, Mearl and George Steffee. Memorial contributions may be made to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, 2405 Park Drive, Harrisburg, PA 17110, the Kidney Foundation of Central PA, 1500 Paxton St., Ste. 101, Harrisburg, PA 17104, or Grace Lutheran Church Food Bank or The Building Fund, 220 N. Charles Street, Red Lion, PA 17356.
