Ara Marguerite Arnold

RED LION- Ara Marguerite (Starner) Arnold, formerly of Brogueville passed away peacefully at her residence at the age of 92, just shy of her 93rd birthday. She was the wife of the late Theodore F. “Ted” Arnold. Ara was born December 19, 1927, to the late Harry T. Starner, Sr. and Ara M. (Brenneman) Starner. A gentle soul, in troubled times, she could have expected to have an unfortunate life, but by the Grace of God, she had a long, happy, healthy life, always the ultimate “lady”. A life that she was forever grateful for until her last breath on Sunday, December 6, 2020. Mrs. Arnold retired from the Brogue Cigar Company and was a member of the Bethany United Methodist Church in Red Lion. As toddlers, she and her brother Harry were raised in the York County Children’s Home through their high school years attending William Penn High. She always had nothing but the fondest of memories and experiences of the Children’s Home, being grateful for the home life she was given, which she instilled upon her children to be content and grateful for what they have in their lives. At the age of 17 she was welcomed into the Becker Family to live with them and their daughter, Betsy Jo, which she did until she married Ted in 1950. She and her family were forever a part of the Becker Family. She decided mid-life to pursue oil painting with her friend Donna Mae Hannigan. She painted beautifully and loved sharing her artistic abilities with family and friends. Our parents had a very happy, fulfilling life surrounded by family and a great group of friends who they gathered with regularly into their late 80’s. She was still visited regularly by her best friend Belva Waltemyer. They enjoyed their Friday shopping trips to the York Galleria Mall followed by partying afterwards with their children and grandchildren. Mrs. Arnold leaves two sons, Jeffrey L. Arnold of York, Steven L. Arnold (Ronald) of York; a daughter, Ara Kimberly McPherson (Mike) of Felton; four grandchildren, Jeremy & Jonathan Arnold, Chad Arnold (Sherry), and Brandy McPherson; four great grandchildren, Mackenzie Ara, Carter & Chloe, and Isaiah; her foster sister, Betsy Jo (Becker) Adams of Connecticut, and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a grandson, Jason Geoffrey Arnold, foster parents, Dr. H. Robert & Frieda Becker; four siblings, Anna F. Frey, Ruth C. Bailey, Jacqueline Marie Starner, and Harry T. Starner, Jr. Heaven may have gained a beautiful angel, but she will be dearly missed by her family & friends. Memorial contributions may be made to The Children’s Home of York, 77 Shoe House Rd., York, PA 17406. Send condolences at HeffnerCare.com Due to COVID-19, Services will be private. Olewiler & Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 35 Gotham Place in Red Lion is assisting the family with the arrangements. CLICK HERE TO SEND FLOWERS
