POTTSVILLE-Anthony "Tony" Tranquillo, 79, of Pottsville, passed away Saturday evening at his residence. Born in Pottsville on August 2, 1929, Tony was a son of the late Guido and Louise Catalini Tranquillo. He was a 1947 graduate of Pottsville High School. He attended Penn State University. He was a Marine Corps veteran having served during the Korean War. Tony owned and operated Tony's Market, on the corner of 2nd and West Market streets in Pottsville, for 37 years. He most recently owned Market Street Deli in Pottsville. Tony was a member of the former St. Joseph Church and a member of St. Patrick's Church, both of Pottsville. He was an active lifetime member of the Humane Fire Company, where he was a past vice president for many years. He was also a member of the Good Intent Fire Company , Catholic War Vets, Fraternal Order of Eagles and Amvets Post , all of Pottsville. He was preceded in death by his Grandson, Francis S. Tranquillo; his brother, John Tranquillo; his two sisters, Rose Melusky and Lena Piccioni. Tony is survived by his wife, Joan F. Larish Tranquillo, Pottsville, to whom he celebrated his 50th wedding anniversary on November 27th; his daughter, Catherine L. Pagnotta, wife of Giuseppe, of Pottsville; his son, Francis L. Tranquillo, husband of Ann Marie, of Pottsville; his two grandchildren, Alessandra Pagnotta and Aaron Tranquillo; his two sisters, Julia Malys, of Pottsville and Josephine Moyer, of Penfield, PA; several nieces and nephews. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday morning at 10:00 A.M. in St. Patrick's Church, 4th & Mahantongo Streets, Pottsville. Friends may call on Wednesday morning from 9:00 A.M. until time of Mass at the Church. Interment with Military Honors will be held in St. Joseph Cemetery, Hillside, Pottsville. Schlitzer-Allen-Pugh Funeral Home, Inc., Pottsville is in charge of arrangements.
