Wellsburg, NY - Ansel W. Young, Age 88, of Oneida Road, Elmira, NY went to his heavenly home on Monday, September 14, 2009 at the Robert Packer Hospital, Sayre, PA. Ansel was born February 15, 1921 in Bells Landing, PA son of the late Elbridge and Marion (Crainey) Young. He graduated from the Wellsburg High School and entered the U.S. Army where he achieved the rank of Second Lieutenant. He served in the European Theater of Operations during WW II and was awarded the Purple Heart for injuries received in battle. Prior to his retirement he worked at Westinghouse in Horseheads, NY where he was Head of Security. Ansel's spiritual life was very important to him. He attended the Bumpville Baptist Church and enjoyed spending time with his family. He also enjoyed building; he constructed his own home, his daughter Jane's home and at least four other homes along with assisting with several other construction projects. Survivors include his wife Helen Young, daughter and son-in-law, Jane and Ray Johnston of Bentley Creek, a brother, Harold Young of Chambersburg, PA, four grandchildren, Stacy & Derek Harkness, Jason & Hope Johnston, Tim Johnston, Alissa Johnston, two great-grandchildren, Ashlyn Harkness and Mallory Johnston.. Ansel was predeceased by his wives, Alice (Montanye) Young, Lucille (Merrill) Young, a sister, Laura Wilson, a brother, Elmer Young and niece Barbara Young. Family and friends are invited to call Thursday, September 17, 2009 from 7 to 8 PM at the Roberts Funeral Home, Inc. 279 Main Street, Wellsburg, NY. His service will be held at the conclusion of calling hours at 8 PM. Graveside committal services will be held 10 AM Friday, September 18, 2009 in Bentley Creek Cemetery.
