York—Anne (Keefer) McDaniel, 84, passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 12, 2025, at Misericordia Nursing & Rehabilitation Center after a long battle with Parkinson’s Disease. She was the beloved wife of the late Charles J. Deller Jr. and beloved partner of Stanley Bowers for the last 29 years.
Born on March 31, 1941, in Halifax, PA, Anne was the cherished daughter of the late William M. and Mary E. (Troup) Keefer growing up on their family farm with her 9 brothers and sisters.
Anne's passion for education began early. After graduating from high school, she pursued her undergraduate studies at Millersville University, followed by a Master's degree from Shippensburg University. Her dedication to learning culminated in a Doctoral degree in education from Penn State University.
Anne's career as an educator was marked by excellence and commitment. She started as a teacher with Hempfield School District before joining Red Lion Area School District, where she dedicated 30 years as a teacher, principal, and ultimately elementary school supervisor, retiring in 1997. Her outstanding contributions were recognized with the Pennsylvania Principal of the Year Award in 1985 and the National Distinguished Principal Award in 1986.
A devoted member of Christ Lutheran Church in Dallastown, Anne was also actively involved in the Elementary Principals Association, Phi Delta Kappa Society, Beta Beta Society, and the Rotary Club of Red Lion. She found joy in reading, knitting, golfing, gardening, traveling, and spending time with her grandchildren.
Anne is survived by her loving children, Charles J. Deller III and his wife, Terri, and Amy Sue Deller Jacobs and her husband, John; her adored grandchildren, Mitchell and Colby Jacobs, and Alex and Blake Deller; Step-son, Mark McDaniel and his wife, Yvonne; Step-daughters, Christine McDaniel and Amy McDaniel and her husband, Shawn and her siblings, Paul Keefer and his wife, Bernita, Evan Keefer and his wife, Linda, Betty Rosenkranz, Rosemary Wolf and her husband, Tom, Gail Randall and her husband, Tom, Joyce Kemper, and Laura Stoneroad and her husband, Darwin. She also leaves behind many nieces and nephews and her sister-in-law, Marilyn Keefer. Anne was preceded in death by her companion, Stanley Bowers in January of this year; her former spouse, David McDaniel; one sister, Jane Montville; and one brother, John Keefer.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 12:00pm Friday, May 23rd at Brown’s Orchards, 254 S. Main St, Loganville, PA. The family will receive visitors from 11:00am – 12:00pm followed immediately by the Celebration of Life. All are welcome to join in honoring Anne's distinguished life. Burial will be private at the convenience of the family. Olewiler & Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 35 Gotham Place, Red Lion is in charge of arrangements.
