Anna (Stampley) Yonick

RED LION- Anna Yonick—generous friend and life partner; uplifting mom; best-cookie-making grandma—left this earth surrounded by her loving family on Friday, February 28, 2014. She died after a nearly three-year struggle with cancer, but she wouldn’t want us to dwell on that. It was Anna’s way to fuss over others. A great listener and funny storyteller, Anna knew a lot about the world without ever traveling too far from home. She loved to read, needlepoint, and bake the most artistically tasty cakes. She appreciated all music but especially liked hard rock, and was a fan of horror movies, passing her chiller passion on to her children and grandchildren. Born in Manhattan, New York March 28, 1942, daughter of Florence and Lamar Stampley, Anna spent most of her life in Staten Island, New York. She graduated Curtis High School in 1959 and a year later married her beloved husband, Raymond, who she kept on his toes for more than 53 years. She has left him a list of more things to do in her absence. Before retiring with Ray to Red Lion, PA in 2000, Anna worked various jobs in her life—including a secretary, floral arranger, and cook for priests in a rectory. She liked to say her greatest accomplishment was her kids Deborah, Steven and Karen; and grandchildren Sam, Emily and Joseph. And, she was pleased that her children married well: Bill, Miriam and Jon. A selfless daughter, she cared for her mother until she passed seven years ago. Always laughing and often breaking into song when a lyric fit the moment, Anna was fun to be around. She would wrestle anyone for the check, surprise you with your favorite cookies, and send the perfect Hallmark card. Those who know Anna and her family are invited to celebrate her life at Life Tributes by Olewiler & Heffner Funeral Chapel and Crematory, Inc., 35 Gotham Place in Red Lion, March 5, 6-8 p.m., with a funeral vigil and rosary at 7:30 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 251 E. Main Street in Dallastown, March 6, 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in honor of Anna to the American Cancer Society.
