Anna E. Koons

YORK-Anna E. (Ness) Koons, 96, of Manchester Twp. passed away Monday, May 14, 2018 at her residence. She was the wife of the late Robert C. Koons. A celebration of life service will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, May 18, 2018 at Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Rd. in York, with a viewing from 12:30-1:30 p.m. Certified Celebrant Betty Frey will be officiating at the service. Burial will be in Mount Rose Cemetery in York. Mrs. Koons was born in York on May 21, 1921, the daughter of the late Cornelius V. and Dorothy C. (Geesey) Ness. She worked as a bookkeeper for Edwin C. Myers Contracting and for Myers and List formerly in Wrightsville. Mrs. Koons was a member of Christ Lutheran Church in Starview. She was a member of the women’s auxiliary of both the West York VFW and Shiloh American Legion. She was an avid Penn State football fan. She was a multiple gold medal winner at the York County Senior Games for card playing. Mrs. Koons leaves five sons, Kenneth Koons, Dale Koons, John Koons, and Elwood “Butch” Butcher, Jr., all of York, and Warren Butcher of Smyrna, GA; two daughters, Sherry Zimmerman of York and Jolie Peters of Red Lion; 11 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; and a sister, Diana Backus of Dagsboro, DE. She was preceded in death by a grandson, Brandon Butcher and a great grandson. Memorial contributions may be made to West York VFW Women’s Auxiliary, 1800 Andrews Street, York, PA 17404.
