POTTSVILLE - Anna Breitigan, 90 of Pottsville, died Saturday morning at the Schuylkill Center. Born in Czechoslovakia on March 14, 1922, she was a daughter of the late Michael and Julia Rizak Covach. She was a 1942 graduate of Pottsville High School. Until retiring, she worked as a crossing guard and at the election polls. Anna and her late husband John owned the former Covach Markets, Pottsville. She was a member of St. Patrick’s Church, Pottsville. Anna loved to travel, and she went to places such as Hawaii, South America, Greece, as well as traveled throughout the United States. She was a fantastic cook and baker, especially around Christmas time, when she would make cookies. Anna loved card parties and holding Tupperware parties and family picnics. Anna was a real coupon lover and often could be found cutting coupons from the Sunday paper. In her younger years she loved to go to dances. For 63 years, Anna was married to John J. Breitigan, who died Jan 19, 2009. A loving mother of seven children, Anna is survived by: four sons, John M. Breitigan, Washington, PA; Edward L. Breitigan, Hamburg; James A. Breitigan, Cressona; and Brian T. Breitigan; Avondale, PA; three daughters, Lili Ann Rolenaitis, Cheyenne, WY; Jennie Breitigan, Orwigsburg; and Melanie E. Tonini, Fulshear, TX; 10 grandchildren; five great grandchildren; two brothers, William Covach, St., Clair; John Covach, VA; a sister Eleanor Stefansky, Pottsville; nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, Anna was preceded in death by a sister, Ethel Woznicki and a brother Michael Covach. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday morning at 10 AM from the Church of Saint Patrick, 4th & Mahantongo St., Pottsville. There will not be any calling hours. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery, Pottsville.The Schlitzer Allen Pugh Funeral Home, 6th & W. Market St., Pottsville is handling the arrangements.
