Alvin W. Tome

RED LION—Alvin W. “Mike” Tome, 85, passed away Monday, April 22, 2024 at York Hospital. He was the companion of Carolyn M. (Smith) Flaharty with whom he shared 35 years.

A Celebration of Life Tribute will be held at 10:00 AM Tuesday, April 30, 2024 at Olewiler & Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory Inc., 35 Gotham Place, Red Lion. Officiating the service will be the Rev. Dr. Daniel Moore of Guinston Presbyterian Church. A viewing will be held from 9:00 – 10:00 AM, Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will be held in Bethel UM Cemetery.

Born December 16, 1938 in York, he was the son of the late Austin W. and Dorothy G. (Brown) Tome.

He was employed as a self employed over the road truck driver for many years until his retirement. Previously, he worked with the International Union of Operating Engineers as a crane operator.

Mike served in the United States Army and was a member of the Dallastown American Legion. He enjoyed attending car shows and driving and working on his cars and motorcycles, especially his 57 Chevy. Mike enjoyed playing cards with friends and family, listening to bluegrass music, especially music by his good friend Bill Runkle. He cherished his precious “Cattie” and loved spending time with his grandchildren.

Mr. Tome is also survived by three sons, Donald Tome and his companion Mary, Rodney Tome and Lonny Flaharty; two daughters, Tina Windon and her companion, Rob and Jodie Simmons and her husband, Dave; six grandchildren, great grandchildren; three brothers, Nelson Tome Sr., and his wife, Joyce, Ed Tome and his wife, Mary and Victor Tome and his wife, Barb; two sisters, Geraldine Tome and her companion, Rick and Trudy Tome and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one son, Steve Tome; one grandson, Officer David Tome; one sister, Ellen Burns and three brothers, Eugene, Gerald and George Tome.
