YORK HAVEN – Alvin W. Sprenkle, Sr., 83, passed away Friday, May 2, 2014 at Hospice & Community Care, Mt. Joy. He was the husband of Betty L. (Middleton) Sprenkle to whom he was married for 61 years on January 3, 2014. A celebration of life tribute service will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday, May 7, 2014 at Friendship Community Church, 3380 Fox Run Road, Dover with his visitation pastor, The Rev. John Harman officiating. A visitation will be held from 10-11:00 AM Wednesday at the Church with a flag folding presentation provided by York County Veterans Honor Guard prior to the service. Burial will be private. Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Road, York is in charge of arrangements. Born July 7, 1930 in Pleasant Grove, York Co., a son of the late Katherine and Benjamin Sprenkle, Sr., he retired from Harley Davidson Transportation Co. after 13 years of service. He had previously worked at Anchor Motor Freight for more than 30 years. Mr. Sprenkle was a member of Goldsboro Fireman’s Club, American Legion Post 945 in Wormleysburg, and was an avid hunter. He was a US Army veteran of The Korean War. In addition to his wife, Mr. Sprenkle is survived by three sons, Alvin W. Sprenkle, Jr. and wife Missy of Carlisle, Robert E. Sprenkle of East York, and Philip J. Sprenkle of York Haven; two daughters, Patricia M. and husband Michael Jordan of Dover and Cheryl A. Sprenkle and companion Jim Atkins of Mt. Wolf; 11 grandchildren, six great grandchildren; a brother, Benjamin Sprenkle, Jr. of Etters; and three sisters, Pauline Aughenbaugh of Leaders Heights, Dorothy Barbush of Harrisburg, and Betty Miller of New Cumberland. He was preceded in death by a great grandson, Jordan Michael Copp; and three brothers, Gerald, Donald, and Robert Sprenkle. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Disabled American Veterans, 4219 E. Trindle Rd., Camp Hill, PA 17011.
