Alva L. Stevens, 59, of Dana Street, Wilkes-Barre, died Sunday, August 19, 2007, at his home. Born in Macon, GA on August 16, 1948, he was the son of the late Bertram and Lollie Mae (Nixon) Stevens. After graduating from high school he entered the US Army where he served during the Vietnam War. Until recently, Alva was employed by the City of Wilkes-Barre in the Street Department. Surviving are his wife, the former Charlotte Hartman; sons, Jayme M. Stevens and Brian K. Stevens; daughter Pamela Stevens; grandson, Nathaniel, all of PA; brother Ralph Stevens, GA; sisters Christine Stevens, PA; Nadine Rowland, NC; Geneva Dowdy, GA and Dorothy McConnell, PA. A memorial service will be held Sunday, September 2, at 1:00 p.m. in Grace Covenant Baptist Church, Lower Demunds Rd., Dallas, PA with Pastor Tom Smith officiating. Kniffen O'Malley Funeral Home, Inc., Wilkes-Barre, PA is in charge of arrangements.
