Alphonsus J. Hughes

POTTSVILLE- Alphonsus J. Hughes, 78, Pottsville, formerly of Mahanoy City, passed away Friday at Schuylkill Medical Center, South Jackson Street, Pottsville. Born in Mahanoy City on June 30, 1931, he was a son of the late Alphonsus J. and Margaret Sheehan Hughes. He was an Army and Navy veteran having served during the Korean War. Alphonsus worked for the Victor Emanuel Club, Reading, until retiring. He was of the Catholic faith. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his 2 sisters, Rosemary McCarthy and Peggy Hentz; his 2 brothers, Eugene and William Hughes. He is survived by his companion of 45 years, Frances O. Kopinetz, of Pottsville; his sister, Florence Cusatius, of Hazleton; his 2 step daughters, Elaine and Beverly Kopinetz; his stepson, Joseph Kopinetz; his 5 step grandchildren .
