YORK - Alma Gunnet Kunkel, 89, died Wednesday, June 4, 2009 at York Hospital. She was the loving wife of the late Earl C. Gunnet to whom she was married 32 years, and to the late John Kunkel to whom she was married one and a half years. A celebration of life service will be 10:30 AM, Saturday, June 6, 2009 at Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Road, York, with the Rev. Dr. Roy E. Carnahan officiating. A viewing will be held 9-10:30 AM, Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will be in St. Paul's Union Cemetery in Stoverstown. Mrs. Kunkel was born March 2, 1920, in Spring Hill, VA, a daughter of the late Jasper Newton and Eva (Snyder) Curry. She was a former employee of SKF Industries in Hanover for over 26 years until her retirement in 1992. Mrs. Kunkel was a devoted member of Stillmeadow Church of the Nazarene for 38 years, joining on October 31, 1971. She was a loving mother and grandmother; and always put her family first. In her younger years she enjoyed cooking, gardening, and reading. Mrs. Kunkel is survived by five daughters; Pearl A. Rebert of Abbottstown, Paulette G. Parquette and husband, John W. of York, Priscilla E. Klinedinst and husband, Richard W. of Huber Heights, OH, Pamela K. Lawrence and husband, William of New Oxford, and Paula G. Thrash and husband, Greg of Hattiesburg, MS; 11 grandchildren; 26 great grandchildren; five great-great grandchildren; two half brothers, John and Joseph Curry; four half sisters, Effie Zerbe, Della Russell, Rebecca Burns, and Shirley Yalch; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by four brothers; Shelton, Wally, Paul and Lawrence Curry, and a half sister Anna Stump. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Visiting Nurse Association and Hospice of Hanover, 44 North Madison Street, Hanover, PA 17331.
