Allen S. Vansant, Jr., 80, passed away Monday, August 1, 2016 at York Hospital. He was the husband of Nancy A. (Mowery) Vansant with whom he would have celebrated 41years of marriage on August 12th. A celebration of life tribute service will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, August 6, 2016 at York Alliance Church, 501 Rathton Rd., York with The Rev. Timothy L. Shuey officiating. Full military honors will be provided by York County Veterans Honor Guard. A visitation will be held from 10-11:00 AM Saturday at the Church. Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Road, York is in charge of arrangements. Born April 2, 1936 in Philadelphia, a son of the late Mary (Arenson) and Allen S. Vansant, Sr.; he was a graduate of Harvard Business School, LaSalle Business School and Advanced Academy for Traffic and Transportation where he earned advanced degrees in Transportation Management and Sales. He had served as Eastern Region General Manager covering six states for Universal Am-Can, Ltd for 21 years and prior to that was Vice President of Motor Freight Express, Inc. in York for 14 years. Following retirement, he continued to work as a driver for Lutheran Social Services. Mr. Vansant’s professional memberships included the Reading, Baltimore, York, Philadelphia, and Wilmington Traffic Clubs, Propeller Club of Baltimore and Lancaster Transportation Club. Allen was a US Army veteran of The Korean War where he served with the 82nd Airborne Division. In addition to his wife, Mr. Vansant is survived by a stepson, J. Keith Harris and his wife, Debbie of Nashville, TN; a stepdaughter, Lisa H. and husband Darin Peace of Daytona Beach, FL; five grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; a niece, Mary Louise Virnelson of Rushland, PA; and a nephew, Butch Virnelson of Rushland. He was preceded in death by two sisters.
