Schlitzer-Allen-Pugh Funeral Home, Inc. 6th & West Market Streets Pottsville, PA 17901 622-7888 March 20, 2012 POTTSVILLE- Alfred J. “Abe” Wertz, 94, of Pottsville, passed away Sunday at Manor Care, Pottsville. Born in Pottsville on May 26, 1917, he was a son of the late Pierce and Mary Kirk Wertz. Abe was a graduate of Pottsville High School. He retired from the former Alcoa, Cressona. Following his retirement he was a school bus driver for the Pottsville Area School District. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Pottsville. He was a life time member of the Phoenix Fire Company #3 and Masonic Lodge #216. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son Gary Wertz, who passed away in 1964. Abe is survived by his wife Ruth L. Evans Wertz, to whom he would have celebrated 70 years of marriage on June 13th; his son Ronald Wertz, husband of Margarette, of Danville; his daughter-in-law, Nancy Steely, of Sun City West, AZ; his granddaughter, Ruth Lynn Vesledahl, wife of Todd, of Cave Creek, AZ; his two great grandsons, Zachary Vesledahl, of Northridge, CA and Aaron Vesledahl, of Cave Creek, AZ; close family friends, Bright and Suzanne Eiler and Jessica and Tim Keck, both of Pottsville. Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 10:00 A.M. at Schlitzer-Allen-Pugh Funeral Home, Inc., 6th & West Market Sts., Pottsville, PA 17901. Friends may call on Saturday morning from 9:00 A.M. until time of service at the funeral home. Interment will be held in Schuylkill Memorial Park, Schuylkill Haven.
