Dover—Alfred E. Berger, 89, died Sunday, July 26, 2015 at Manor Care Health Services-North. He was the husband of Theola A. (Blasser) Berger. The couple celebrated their 64th wedding anniversary on May 5th. A Celebration of Life Service will be 11:30 AM, Thursday, July 30, 2015 at Faith United Church of Christ, 509 Pacific Ave, York with the Rev. Bonnie J. Whittier officiating. A viewing will be held from 10:30-11:30 AM at the church. Burial will be held in Prospect Hill Cemetery with full military honors provided by the York County Veterans Honor Guard. Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Rd, York is in charge of arrangements. Born November 17, 1925 in Patterson, New Jersey, he was a son of the late Rudolph and Marjorie (DeVogel) Berger. He was employed as a Drafting Engineer for 45 years with DONLEE Technologies, formerly York Shipley until his retirement in 1990. A United States Army Air Corps Veteran of World War II, he was also a member of Faith United Church of Christ, where he was active in several church organizations including, singing in the choir and male chorus and Sunday School Treasurer. He was a member of the Weigelstown Lions Club, both the York & East Berlin Carvers and enjoyed golfing, bowling and painting. In addition to his wife, Mr. Berger is also survived by one son, Bradley A. Berger of York; one daughter, Barbara A. Berger of W. York; five grandchildren, Nicholas D. Berger of W. York, Ashley N. Hess of York, Rachael A. Kemp of Littlestown, Christian D. Steele of Christiana and Jordan L. Steele of Lititz; three great grandchildren, Ella and Madelyn Kemp and Blake Hess and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Victoria S. Steele and two brothers, Robert and Harold Berger. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Faith United Church of Christ, 509 Pacific Ave, York, Pa 17404.
