Alex Kalinich Alex Kalinich, 85, of 547 Dowdentown Road, Pottsville, passed away Friday morning at the Good Samaritan Regional Medical Center, Pottsville. Born on November 27, 1921 in Pottsville, he was the son of the late Michael and Julia Slachta Kalinich. He was a 1939 graduate of Branch Twp. High School and attended Michigan State College. He was a Staff Sergeant in the Army having served during World War II. He was a platoon guide in charge of 36 men in a rifle platoon. He assigned duties and instructed his men in his platoon. He served in the European Theatre with the 261st Infantry. He received the African Middle Eastern Service Medal, the American Service Medal, the Good Conduct Medal and the World War II Victory Medal. He was employed by Alcoa for 25 years until retiring. He was preceded in death by three sisters, Anne Wallace, Julia Tokonitz and Mary Marchuski; six brothers, Andrew, Mack, John, Peter, Charles and George Kalinich. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Patricia Wesnoski Kalinich, Pottsville; his son Alex Kalinich, husband of Carol; his two daughters, Alexis Griffiths, wife of Ronald, Mount Carbon and Lisa McClure, wife of Craig, Pottsville; his sister, Bertha Owen, Maryland; his ten grandchildren, Tara Eubanks, Chad Charlesworth, Aaron, Ryan, Briel and Ronnie Griffiths, Alex William Kalinich, Dakota, Brianna and Dustin McClure; his three Great Grandchildren, Chase, Jayden and Eve Eubanks; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday morning at 9:30 A.M. from the Schlitzer-Allen-Pugh Funeral Home, Inc., Pottsville. The Rev. Harold L. Hand, Jr. will officiate. Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday morning from 8:30 A.M. until time of service. Interment will be held in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville. Memorial contributions can be to either the Alzheimer's Association, 3544 N. Progress Ave., Suite 205, Harrisburg, PA 17110, or the American Cancer Society, Schuylkill Unit, 16 N. 4th St., Minersville, PA 17954.
