MECHANICSBURG – Alan W. Starner, 74, passed away Sunday, September 22, 2024 at his home. He was the husband of Doris J. (Gabner) Hicks Starner with whom he celebrated seven years of marriage.

A Celebration of Life Tribute Service will be held at 12:00 Noon on Friday, September 27, 2024 at New Beginnings Church, 630 South Union Street, Middletown with pastor, The Rev. Britt Strohecker officiating. A visitation will be held from 11-12:00 Noon on Friday at the Church. Beaver Urich Funeral Home, Inc., 305 West Front Street, Lewisberry is in charge of arrangements.

Born August 30, 1950 in Harrisburg, a son of the late Donald L. and Mae P. (Kaltrider) Starner, he was a graduate of Cumberland Valley High School. Alan retired from Norfolk Southern Railways in 2005, having loved his railroad career. He was an avid sports fan and particularly loved coaching and watching his boys play sports. Mr. Starner also served in the PA Army National Guard.

Alan is survived by two sons, Alan W. Starner, Jr. of Dillsburg and Sean and wife Deanna Starner of Surprise, AZ; a stepson, Jason A. and wife Sharon Hicks of Oberlin, PA; a stepdaughter, Bobbie J. Hicks of Dundalk, MD; three grandchildren, Addison, Pressley, and Grayson Starner; four step grandchildren, Rayne, Jaedyn, McKenzie, and Aaron Hicks; and a sister, Donna Bownaze of Mechanicsburg. He was preceded in death by a brother, Barry Starner.
