YORK - Admiral D. Irwin, Jr., 90, died at 5:32 a.m. Saturday, April 19, 2008, at ManorCare Health Services - North. He was the husband of Evelyn R. (Parr) Irwin with whom he observed a 67th wedding anniversary on June 29, 2007. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at First Assembly of God, 2270 Susquehanna Trail North, York with the Rev. Dwayne L. Campbell officiating. Burial will be in Susquehanna Memorial Gardens. Viewing will be 9 to 10 a.m. Thursday, at the church. Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, 1551 Kenneth Rd., York is in charge of arrangements. Mr. Irwin was born March 30, 1918, in Strinestown. He was the son of the late Admiral D. and Elsie May (Spangler) Irwin. He was a retired mail handler with the U.S. Postal Service and had also owned and operated an antique business in Thomasville and the Atlantic Gas Station in North York. He attended First Assembly of God and was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. In addition to his wife, Mr. Irwin leaves a son, Edward E. Irwin of York; two grandsons; six step grandchildren; two great granddaughters; and a sister, Pauline Dennis of York. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Vernon and Luther Irwin.
