Adam L. Stiver

Mill Hall - Adam L. Stiver, age 82, of Mill Hall, died at Jersey Shore Hospital on Saturday, Sept. 1, 2007. He was born in Lock Haven on August 1, 1925, son of the late Glenn O. and Viola (Meyers) Stiver. He worked as a machine operator for the Clinton Paper Co. in Castanea until his retirement. He was devoted to his family and his pet companion "Beethoven", and was a member of the Lock Haven Elks Club and the Beech Creek American Legion. He was an avid trout fisherman and an accomplished hunter, having earned two Boone & Crockett trophies. He was also awarded the Triple Trophy Award for bear, white tailed deer, and wild turkey all in the same season. He was a dedicated member of the U.S. Army during WWII serving with both the 85th (Custer Division) and the 34th (Red Bull) divisions going back and forth as needed. For his service he earned the Combat Infantryman Badge, Presidential Unit Citation, Expert Marksman for Rifle, Pistol, and Grenade, Sharpshooter for Rifle(the Browning Automatic Rifle), Good Conduct Medal, World War II Victory Medal, European African Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with three bronze stars, the Bronze Star Medal and the Purple Heart. When he was honorably discharged, he had attained the rank of tech. sergeant. On April 25, 1946, Adam married Katherine J. Yarrison and they celebrated 61 years together this past April. She survives in Mill Hall. Also surviving is his son: Robert (Wendy) Stiver of Lock Haven, a daughter: Kathryn J. (Barry) Wunz of Bellefonte, two step grandchildren: Greg and Carla, and 3 step great grandchildren, brothers: Glenn O. Stiver Jr. and William Stiver, sister: Mary Ann Hoffman, all of Lock Haven, and numerous nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death were his son: Dennis L. in 1958, brother: Robert, and sisters: Edith Hill and Eloise Bletz. Funeral services will be held at the Helt Funeral Chapel, 232 Hogan Blvd., Mill Hall at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 5th with Rev. Kathleen Kind officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow in Sunnyside Cemetery where military rites will be held at the graveside.
