Ada May (Brown) Spahr

DOVER TWP. Ada May (Brown) Spahr, 95, of Frey Village, Middletown, PA, formerly of Dover Township, York County passed away January 13, 2011. She shared 50 years of marriage with Jacob H. Spahr who passed away on January 27, 1992. Born May 9, 1915 in Meyersdale, PA, Ada was the daughter of Henry F. and Anna Rebecca (Meyers) Brown of Meyersdale, Somerset County PA. She graduated from Meyersdale Area High School in 1933, then completed bookkeeper training at Thompsons Business School in York. In 1950 Ada and Jacob established Adas Letter Shop and Mailing Service which Ada managed for 20 years. She later did bookkeeping for her husbands business, J.H. Spahr Wholesale Building Materials, Inc. from which they retired in 1977. Ada was a 40+ year member of Quota International womens service club and served terms as its vice president and president. She was a member of Amity Reformed Church and Meyersdale Church of the Brethren in Meyersdale. Later she held membership at Bethany UCC, York and Salem UCC and Dover UCC in Dover. Ada is survived by a son, Ivan Spahr of York, and a daughter, Joyce R. Moyer and husband Dr. Kerry Moyer of Mechanicsburg. Also three grandchildren and three great grandchildren. She is predeceased by sisters, Orpha Lintz, Esther Mankamyer, Ruth Robley, and Freda Menego, and a brother Karl Brown, all of Somerset County PA. Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Road, York is in charge of arrangements which are private. Memorial contributions may be made to Diakon Lutheran Social Ministries, 1020 N. Union St., Middletown PA 17057. Contributions will be divided between Frey Village and Diakon Hospice St. John, Wyomissing.
