Etters—Ruth L. (Hoopes) Bowers, 95, died Thursday, December 18, 2014 at Golden Living Nursing Home in Camp Hill. She was the wife of the late Harry F. Bowers. A Celebration of Life Service will be 2 PM, Monday, December 22, 2014 at St. Paul’s (Paddletown) United Methodist Church, 355 Church Rd, Etters with her pastor, the Rev. Ellen B. Scamahorn officiating. A viewing will be held from 1-2 PM, Monday, at the church. Burial will be held in Paddletown Cemetery. Beaver-Urich Funeral Home, Inc., 305 W. Front Street, Lewisberry is in charge of arrangements. Born January 22, 1919 in Harrisburg, she was a daughter of the late Melvin and Mary E. (Fager) Hoopes. She graduated from John Harris High in 1936 and was an outfielder and member of the girls baseball team. She was a dedicated and loving homemaker for husband and family. Before she stopped working to care for her family she was employed for several years as a book keeper at the New Cumberland Federal Credit Union. A member of St. Paul’s (Paddletown) United Methodist Church, she also was a den mother for the Cub Scouts, helped with Girls Scouts, participated in league bowling for several years at Trindle Bowling Alley, loved playing bingo and was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary at Newberrytown Fire Department. Mrs. Bowers is survived by five children, Harry L. Bowers and his wife, Joy of Etters, Robert L. Bowers and his wife, Carol of Etters, Earl F. Bowers and his wife, Susan of Mechanicsburg, Brenda R. Love and her husband, Larry of York Haven and Richard A. Bowers and his wife, Kathy of Etters; 19 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, 5 great-great grandchildren and 1 niece. She was preceded in death by a brother, LeRoy Hoopes.
