Fort Myers, FL, Pottsville. Robert W. DeLong, 92 of Fort Myers, Fl., passed away Wednesday at his residence. Born in Pottsville, March 31, 1916, the son of the late Robert W and Florence A. Burke DeLong. He reside in Fort Myers part-time from 1977 until 1997, when he became a full-time resident. His wife of 60 years, Sara H. DeLong, preceded him in death on August 11, 2002. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family, as both his parents and only brother preceded him in death. Both Robert and Sara were born and raised in Pottsville and graduated from Pottsville High School, Robert in the calss of 1933 and Sara in the calss of 1937. Robert was a veteran of the Army, having participated in the Normandy invasion of France during World War II. He was employed as a letter carrier at the U.S. Post Office, Pottsville, Burlington, VT., and Bridgeport, CT., until his retirement in 1975. Before settling permanently in Fort Myers, he and his wife resided in Stratford, Conn. for 42 years. He was a life member of the Masonic Lodge of Pottsville Lodge #216, and of the 32nd Degree Masonic Consistory, Reading, PA. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday from the Schlitzer-Allen-Pugh Funeral Home, Inc., Sixth & West Market Street, Pottsville. The Rev. Liddy Bileck will officiate. Friends may call from 10 a.m. until time of service at the funeral home. Masonic services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Interment with military honors will be in the Charles Baber Cemetery, Pottsville.
