DOVER- Raymond R. “Ray” Troxell, Jr., 79, died Monday, January 23, 2012 at The Brethren Home Community in New Oxford. He was the husband of Barbara Lou (Foulk) Troxell. The couple celebrated their 56th wedding anniversary on August 6, 2011. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, January 26, 2012 at Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Rd. in York with military honors by York County Veterans Honor Guard at the start of the service. Certified Celebrant Betty Frey will be officiating at the service. Viewing will be from 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home. Raymond was born in Easton, PA on July 11, 1932, a son of the late Raymond R. Troxell, Sr. and Mary Jane (Cooney) Troxell. He served as Principal and Football Coach at Easton Area High School in Easton, PA until 1966 then he relocated to York and became Superintendant of West York Area School District until 1979. He was a Professor at McDaniel College in Westminster, MD and served as Dean of the Graduate School at Tampa College in Tampa, FL until his retirement in 1994. Raymond was a 1950 graduate of Easton Area High School, graduate of both Lafayette College and Lehigh University where he received three masters Degrees. He received his Doctorate Degree in Education at South Western University. He received many awards in the education field. One of his most memorable trips was to Russia in the 1970’s to observe their school system. He enjoyed all levels of football and baseball and was an avid San Francisco 49ers fan and an avid NY Yankees fan. He served in the US Coast Guard during the Korean War. Raymond leaves three daughters, Gayle Shorts and her husband Jim of Dover, Pamela Rexroth and her husband Ben of York, and Lynn Strausbaugh and her husband Steve of Dover; six grandchildren, Jessica and her husband Derek, Jonathan, Ashley and her husband Andy, Matthew, David, and Daniel; two great grandchildren, Colin and Delaney; a brother, Richard Troxell and his wife Judy of Georgetown, TX; and numerous nieces and nephews. Memorial contributions may be made to The Brethren Home Community, 2990 Carlisle Pike, New Oxford, PA 17350.
