TROY,PA-Peggy A. (Evans) Keith, 78, of Troy, PA, went to her rest on August 16, 2007 at the Bradford County Manor where she had been a resident for several months. Peggy was born on January 31, 1929 in Altoona, PA. She was the daughter of the late Donald L. Evans, Sr. and the late Ruth (Cashman) Evans. She graduated from Altoona High School in 1946. Peggy moved to New York City after high school where she worked for the Royal Typewriter Company and was a runway model. She married Patrick J. Keith there in 1950 and a few years later moved to Long Island, NY. While raising her six children there Peggy was in business for herself as a dressmaker. She was very involved in the PTA, she was a Cub Scout den mother, and a Girl Scout leader. Along with her family in 1969 Peggy helped build their first Pennsylvania home in rural Bradford County, living there moving to Troy Heights in 1972. She worked at Gustin's jewelry store and was a real estate agent with Bob Kendall's agency. She later became the Director of Activities at the Troy Community Hospital until her retirement. Peggy was the Troy Borough Tax Collector for many years. She was also the Registrar of Vital Statistics. Peggy enjoyed her fourteen years as secretary of the Troy Fair where one of her favorite activities was hiring and meeting many stars of the entertainment world. She was past president of the Troy Chamber of Commerce and the Business and Professional Women's Club. She had been on the board of the Rape and Abuse Crisis Center in Towanda, the Alparon Park Association, and the Friends of the Library. She was a member of the Troy Community Hospital Women's Auxiliary, the 1st Presbyterian Church of Troy, the Presbyterian Ladies, and many other organizations too numerous to mention. Peggy organized and volunteered for literally hundreds of events and projects during more than 35 years of her life in Troy. Peggy enjoyed sewing, cooking, reading, quilting, horseback riding, swimming, nature, and traveling. Some of her favorite trips include visits to Texas, the New Jersey shore, and a special vacation at Peggy's Cove in Nova Scotia. She traveled to New York City many times for Broadway shows, shopping, and fine dining. She especially enjoyed The Tavern on the Green. Peggy even took belly dancing lessons and her "stage name" was Chervone', meaning "red haired one" in Polish. She got to enjoy the thrill of a hot air balloon ride. She had a favorite cat named Cinnamon. In 1976 Peggy got a tattoo of a turtle! Peggy was loving and giving to her family, her friends, her community, and to the world. She will be missed very much by very many people. Peggy is survived by Patrick J. Keith, the father of her children of San Antonia, TX, son Michael (Janet) Keith of Key Colony Beach, FL, daughter Kerrin (Jim) Keith Beatty of Williamsport, PA, son Dennis (Brendae) Keith of Cogan Station, PA, son Daniel Keith of Helotes, TX, son Casey (Marian) Keith of La Vernia, TX, grandchildren: Shannon Brian) Keith McKenzie, Maya Keith, Patrick Keith, and William Keith, step-grandchildren: Colin Beatty, Kyle Beatty, Christina Warner, and Eric "E.J." Huffman, great grandsons: Blake McKenzie and Noah McKenzie, step-great grandchildren: Serenity Warner, Christianne Warner, and Olivia Beatty. She is survived by one brother, Donald L. (the Late Phyllis) Evans, Jr. and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Peggy is predeceased by her youngest daughter Gigi Katherine Keith and an infant grandson, Joshua David Keith. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in Peggy's memory to the Allen F. Pierce Free Library, 115 Center St. Troy, PA 16947, or to the Rape and Abuse Crisis Center, PO Box 186 Towanda, PA 18848, or to the American Lung Association, 61 Broadway, New York, NY 10006. A memorial service for Peggy will be held at a later date at the 1st Presbyterian Church of Troy, PA, Arrangements are entrusted to the Gerald W. Vickery, Jr. Funeral Home Inc., 110 West Main Street, Troy, PA. Cards of condolence may be sent to the Keith family in care of 1167 Palmer Hill Rd. Williamsport, PA 17701.
