YORK - Norma J. [Sharp] Daugherty Gilbert, 58, died Sunday, June 10, 2007 at Manor Care - South. She was the wife of Ray G. Gilbert with whom she married on May 17, 1970. A celebration of life service will be 7:00 PM Thursday at Aldersgate United Methodist Church, 397 Tyler Run Rd., York with her pastor, Rev. Jonathan L. Bausman officiating. Private entombment will be in Salem Union Cemetery, Jacobus. A visitation time will immediately follow the service in the Church fellowship hall. Born November 7, 1948 in Hanover a daughter of the late Milton S. and Margaret L.M. [Miller Gromling] Sharp and step daughter of Vivian Sharp of York, she was a 1966 graduate of Dallastown High School. She worked more than 28 years for LIU 12 as a personnel care and teacher's assistant. Some of her many interests included 24 years of involvement with Girl Scouting; vacationing; traveling with her family and husband; swimming; and taking various classes at her health club. In addition to her husband of 37 years, Mrs. Gilbert is survived by a son, Chadwick J. Daugherty of York; a daughter, Renee N. and husband Michael Kauffman of Hagerstown, MD; two adored granddaughters, Natalie and Abigail Kauffman; a brother, John M. and wife Arlita Sharp of York; a sister, Leona M. and husband Robert Bull of York; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her first husband, James Daugherty who was killed in action in the Vietnam War. Norma was a warm and caring wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, whom will be missed by many. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Girl Scouts in the Heart of PA, 1600 Mt.
