RED LION- Lucille S. (Grove) Poet, 75, died peacefully of cancer at her home surrounded by family on October 16, 2007. She was the loving wife of Kenneth E. Poet to whom she was married for 54 years. Lucille was born February 28, 1932, in Red Lion, the daughter of the late Fred C. and Bertha (Flinchbaugh) Grove. She was a 1949 graduate of Red Lion High School and a graduate of York Hospital School of Nursing. She established her nursing career at York Hospital where she practiced Obstetrics for 34 years. Following her retirement in 1992 her love of travel led her to work as an escort with Red Lion Tours. Lucille's life was devoted to her family, faith and profession. As a 60-year member of Red Lion Zion United Methodist Church, she served as a leader and teacher in both children and adult programming. In addition, she was a District Officer in the United Methodist Women's Organization, was active in the Faith Beyond the Pews Work Camp and developed the We Care Program at Zion. In her community she served on the Board of Directors of the York Hospital Nursing Alumni Association, was president of the Red Lion Visiting Nurses Association, participated in the AARP tutoring program, volunteered with the Red Lion Historical Society and Mobil Foods, and was a member of the Red Lion Country Club and a Charter Member of the Red Lion Area Education Foundation. Lucille was a collector of experiences, traveling throughout the world with her husband and sharing time with the family she loved so dearly. In addition to her husband Ken, she is survived by her son, Jeffrey K. and his wife Joan Poet of York; two daughters, Kristine and her husband Dr. Herbert Ridyard of Storrs, CT and Lauren B. and her husband Dr. Robert Rickard of Landenberg, PA; four grandchildren, John, Douglas, Stacey and Scott; 2 step-grandchildren, Chris and Carrie; one step-great grandchild, Nixie; and twin sister, Luretta Chronister of Red Lion. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the funeral at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday at Red Lion Zion United Methodist Church, 1155 Felton Rd., Red Lion. Visitations will be from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday at Life Tributes by Olewiler & Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 35 Gotham Place in Red Lion and from 10 to 11 a.m. on Saturday at the church. Burial will follow in Red Lion Zion Cemetery. Officiating will be her pastor, The Reverend James C. House. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Red Lion Zion U. M. Church, 1155 Felton Rd., Red Lion, PA 17356.
