RED LION – John W. Nameck, 93, passed away Sunday, October 7, 2012 at Moravian Manor in Lititz. He was the husband of the late Virginia L. (Ela) Nameck to whom he was married for 62 years until her death on December 20, 2007. Funeral services and burial will be private in Red Lion Cemetery. Full military rites will be presented by York County Veteran’s Honor Guard. Born May 13, 1919 in Passaic, NJ a son of the late William and Eva (Malenchak) Nameck, he was a 1936 graduate of Frackville High School. Mr. Nameck retired from the US Navy on July 17, 1967 following 20 years of service. He began his military career during WWII where he served on the USS Wasp aircraft carrier. Upon his re-enlistment he served as an aircraft mechanic stationed at both Oakland and Alameda Naval Air Stations in California. In 1963 he was promoted to Chief Petty Officer and transferred to Andrews Air Force Base until his retirement in 1967. Mr. Nameck’s military career spanned WWII, The Korean War, and The Vietnam War. Following his US Navy retirement, Mr. Nameck worked 12 years with The Budd Co. located on Red Lion Road in Philadelphia. He enjoyed traveling throughout the United States, photography, and wood working; and was a member of Grace Lutheran Church. Mr. Nameck is survived by a daughter, Nancy L. and husband Keith McCleary of Red Lion; a son, Kenneth J. and wife Veronica “Ronnie” Nameck of Bensalem, PA; two grandchildren, Ryan M. and wife Karla McCleary of Red Lion and Jessica Stevens of Lake Forest, CA; a great granddaughter, Shelby of Lake Forest; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a grandson, Ian K. McCleary; two brothers; and one sister. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Ian K. McCleary Memorial Scholarship Fund, c/o Red Lion Area High School, 200 Horace Mann Avenue, Red Lion, PA 17356.
