DOVER - Jean A. Seifert, 100, entered into rest on Tuesday, April 18, 2023 at York North Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, with her daughter by her side.
Born September 25, 1922, in Dover, she was the daughter of the late Claude and Lena (Krout) Shaffer. She was the last surviving child of the Shaffer family.
Jean worked in various sewing factories and eventually, Teledyne McKay from where she retired. After retirement she went back to work in a sewing factory until the age of 79. She then quit work to take care of her terminally ill daughter until her death.
Jean was a hard worker and never shied away from long hours of work. She provided for her family and never asked for a handout. She mowed her own lawn up until the age of 96. She enjoyed cooking, baking, vegetable gardening, canning and freezing the bounty from her garden. She grew large zucchinis and baked many loaves of bread which she would gladly give to visitors. Bowling, playing cards, her favorite being 500 bid, and sewing were a few of her favorite pastimes.
She is survived by her daughter Deborah J. Gross and husband Gary; grandson Thaddeus A. Gross, and companion Tina Siar, granddaughter Shannon J. Swartz and husband Michael. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her daughter, Rita M. Harlacker; brothers, George Shaffer, Gerard Shaffer, John Shaffer, James Shaffer, Nathan Shaffer, Cornelius Shaffer, Wayne Shaffer and sisters, Francis Weaver, Eleanor March, Charlotte Hamberger and Arletta Gross.
A Celebration of Life and luncheon, will be held Saturday, April 29, 2023, 11:00 AM at Saint David’s ECC Church, 2411 Oakland Rd, Dover, PA with Pastor Patrick Teaford Officiating.
