Cogan Station-Donald Jared Mecum, Sr., 78 died Thursday, April 16, 2009 at Williamsport Hospital. He was the husband of the late Rebecca Ann (Calkins) Mecum. A service will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, April 21, 2009 at Allen & Redmond Funeral Home, Inc., 331 Elmira Street in Williamsport. The Reverend Joseph Beadle and pastor Jeanne Hayes will be officiating at the service. Viewings will be from 6-8 p.m. on Monday and 10-11 a.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Trout Run Cemetery in Lewis Township. Mr. Mecum was born in Bodines on June 25, 1930, a son of the late Jared P. and Hazel S. (Fox) Mecum. He was a self-employed Tinsmith, owning and operating, D& M Furnace Works. Prior to that he worked for Sheifs Dray Line and Forsburg Furnace. Mr. Mecum was a member of Blossburg American Legion and Sebring VFW. He was a life member of: Red Run Rod and Gun Club, Polish Club in Newberry, Marine Club in Deer Crossing and Handy Man's Association. He served in the Merchant Marines. Mr. Mecum leaves a son, Donald J. Mecum, Jr. of Jersey Shore; four daughters, Glenna McMahon of Santa Claus, Indiana, Donna Rae Kriner of Montoursville, Susan M. Taylor of Jersey Shore, and Jackie Brookens of Avis; 13 grandchildren, eight great grandchildren; a brother LaRue Mecum of Cogan Station; and a sister, Emiline Larson of Linden. A daughter, Shelley "Sam" Harlen had preceded him in death.
