Northampton Township - Charles Urich Detter, Jr. 83, formerly of York, died Thursday, September 10, 2009 at Chandler Hall Hospice in Newtown, PA. He was the loving husband of the late Delores Kathryn (Rauhauser) Detter. A celebration of life service will be10:00 a.m. Tuesday, September 15, 2009 at Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Road, York, with his pastor, the Rev. Phyllis J. Baum officiating. Viewings will be held 7-9:00 p.m. Monday and 9-10:00 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Mt. Rose cemetery with full military honors provided for by the York County Veteran's Honor Guard. Mr. Detter was born June 28, 1926 in Rossville, PA a son of the late Charles U. and Jennie (Cochenour) Detter. He was a former employee of York Electrial Supply Company for over 30 years until his retirement. Mr. Detter was a veteran serving his country from 1944 to 1946 in the US Army. He was a charter member of Hayshire United Church of Christ. He was also a member of Manchester Lions Club, Viking Athletic Association, and Young at Heart, all of York. He enjoyed wood carving, painting with pastels, gardening, and building things around the house. Mr. Detter is survived by a daughter Vickie Detter and partner Diane M. Foreman of Holland, PA; a step-mother Florence Detter; three grandchildren, Alanna Collins, and Edward and Timothy Rojewski; three brothers, Gerald "Gerry" , Russell "Rusty", and Richard "Rick" Detter; three sisters, Nancy Koontz and husband Jack, Judy Detter, and Doreen Detter; godchildren Derrick Fleming and Crystal Gotwalt; and many loved nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother, George Detter, and three sisters, Kathleen Rupp, Mae Runkle and Marlin Detter.
